We recently and quite spontaneously upgraded our toddlers to a bunk bed from toddler beds. An opportunity presented itself and we had to find mattresses, fast.I tend to purchase more natural products, but unfortunately “organic” mattresses were not an option financially. So I had to find the next best thing, and keep each mattress under $200.I considered this Signature Sleep Dream On mattress, the 6” Nod by Tuft & Needle, and Ikea. Due to the uncertainty about the safety of the foam in Ikea’s mattresses, I eliminated them. I saw mixed information regarding the foam in the Nod mattress, contacted their CS, and was assured there was no fiberglass in their mattresses. I pointed out that that info was not on their web site, nor was it updated in the Amazon Q&A. I was assured the info would be updated to reflect the correct info, and to date it hasn’t been.I contacted Signature Sleep’s CS and received prompt responses to all of my questions regarding the Dream On mattress. What ultimately got me to purchase two of these mattresses, in spite of finding very few reviews was:1) Good customer service2) Mattresses in stock3) Made in North America (Canada)4) Greenguard Gold certified5) No flame retardants5) Individually encased coils to protect against EMF conductivity6) No foamThe shipping was prompt, the mattresses were well packaged, and they inflated quickly. What I noticed right away was a LACK of smell. The mattresses smelled like absolutely nothing! No chemicals, no weird odors. I immediately knew I’d made the right choice for my kids.We splurged on organic mattress covers, sheets, and organic pillows, since that’s what their bodies are touching all night, but it’s super reassuring to know that the mattresses won’t be off gassing at all.The negatives:The mattresses are not as firm as I thought they would be. As a full grown adult, I find the coils to be kind of squishy, but in spite of that the mattress is comfortable. My toddlers don’t seem to notice the coils at all. Not only do they fall asleep faster than they did on their crib mattresses, they sleep later in the morning too! So I’m absolutely thrilled with the comfort of them for my kids. The better quality sleep speaks for itself!One other minor con: While the cover of the mattress is a very soft material, the polyester padding underneath it seems to be thin, and it tends to bunch up under the cover and can be difficult to adjust. Although I think this issue has to do with the fact that the mattresses are in a bunk bed and that we have extra guard rails attached to them, so I think it’s a bit of a fit issue which will be alleviated once they’re older the guard rails can be removed.In spite of those cons, I am definitely pleased with the mattresses and would order more in the future. I am absolutely thrilled that there was zero odor when we opened them. I couldn’t believe it. That Greenguard certification isn’t just a talking point—it’s legit!
