Unlike its competitors here on Amazon this futon is more humble in price and seems to have similar quality as the higher priced options.Although it doesn't compare to a real futon, ie futon bought at Nitori or Homemack in Japan, this is as good as it's going to get here in the US without dishing out a ridiculous $300. (Which by the way is massive profit for those distributors.)A really good futon in Japan is half the price and typically comes with sheets and a comforter.As far as the this futon goes, it is thick but not very dense. If you lay it on a carpet it is more than enough. If you lay it on a hard surface, you are going to want some additional layers. (BTW you don't need a tatami mat of the same size to lay underneath it. In fact I have never seen this in Japan. Save your money.)tl:drI would buy this again.
